About the Property

HISTORY OF THE HOUSE

Potter’s Tavern was built in the 1820’s as an Inn on the Old Stagecoach Trail. In the mid 1800’s, as a house on a well-established pathway through the Underground Railroad, there is a lore that the house also served as a safe stop on the passage North to freedom. This has been a residence to the Poston family since the 1950’s. Recently the opportunity to restore and renovate this wonderful house has allowed us to realize the dream that this house could once again house travelers on their way to other destinations!

ABOUT THE OWNERS

Therese Poston’s family bought this wonderful property before she was even born, so this has always been home to her. A deep love of the land, the forest and history of the property have kept her working tirelessly all these years to appreciate, celebrate, and nurture all that this beautiful property has to offer. Nancy Johnson immediately felt at home and connected to the property from her first visit over twenty years ago. A retired chemistry teacher, she finds ways to learn and share the valuable lessons of the land and the house.

For many years the pair operated a market garden under the name “Naomi’s Garden” which served many Farmer’s Markets in the Columbus, Ohio area, notably Clintonville Farmer’s Market and Worthington’s Winter Market. They specialized in organic vegetables, maple syrup, and grains (specifically spelt). Now they have turned their attention back to this majestic house. Their goal? Their mission?… To share the wonder and beauty and charm with the world!! There is so much to do in the area, and a stay at Potter’s Tavern Retreat would be the highlight of the trip! The inn has been lovingly restored with heart and heritage— a can't-miss spot for locals and travelers alike.
